Zigglin’ up and wigglin’ down! Went up Gold Hill by Mayflower Gulch- mixed patches of wind crust and powder piles above tree line and consistently (for early season) soft below. When the weather’s this good though, all turns are fun!
If you’re in Colorado and traveling in the winter backcountry or planning on it, please join the Colorado Ski & Snowboard FB group. You’ll get the freshest condition reports and observations, lively discussions on decision-making skills, and latest avalanche education resources. You might also get candid photos like this one while you’re out from fellow members! AIARE 1 highly recommended too, before or along with the initial BC gear haul! 📷: Todd Duncan
Making room for turkey!
An unexpected fall gave me an unexpected fall, but still a great fall.
In case you’re weirdly fascinated by injuries, my left clavicle is currently compressed over an inch, bringing my shoulder forward while winging out my shoulder blade. Pretty much, I got smooshed into a gargoyle. But a very happy and grateful gargoyle! The various ways you guys have reached out and shown genuine concern and readiness to support me have made the current womp-womp situation not-too-hard to accept. I am determined to make the best of it knowing I got friends like you cheering me on. I’ll be taking it easy the next few weeks, smashing the 2.5 lbs. dumbbells at the gym and maybe taking noontime aqua-batics classes. If you want to help me out, then go have the best rowdy fall adventures that I can vicariously live through!
Well it finally happened… the broken collarbone! With what I had scouted on the terrain and how I was riding and feeling at the time, I took an informed risk that I would still take as I replay the lead up in my head. It’s a bummer outcome that I would give a 1-star Yelp review to but I’m at peace with it (and that’s not the morphine speaking)! Plus, having many friends that have resiliently and gracefully overcome similar/identical setbacks, I feel confident and well-prepared for the recovery process. Let’s do it! Finally, I do have a few small requests: (1) Help me open jars? (2) Can someone pick-up my prescriptions? 😉 (3) If i’m still wearing the hospital gown 2 weeks from now, maybe take it away? This thing is dangerously comfy and well-ventilated.
